Part III. Italy. 41. Approaching Pisa. [January 3, 1348]

In this chapter, I finally get to enact the central pun of the novel--North Sámi bisanit [to stop] and Tuscan Italian pisani [people of Pisa]. Bávlos has finally heard his command to stop, and now he can find out the reasons why. I knew that I wanted Bávlos to get to know the painter of the great fresco at Pisa, but I had no idea until I started my research that Buonamico Buffalmacco is so famous from a literary point of view. Discovering the wealth of stories about him in the works of Boccaccio and Vasari made the process of writing this and later chapters easier and also a great deal of fun.
