Part II. The Hansa Lands and France. 27. Köln [November 1, 1347]

In this chapter, I wanted Bávlos to explore the magificence of continental European art, while entering into one of his typical debates regarding the Sámi way of seeing things vs. that of other medieval Europeans. By arguing against the importance of completion, of course, he is being facetious: Sámi appreciated finishing things just as much as did others. But still the same, the idea of finding value in the process as well as the product is a key element of Sámi aesthetics and one which comes up repeatedly in the novel.
