Lightscapes 4 essays.

Nordic lights are changing lights, the long transformations of dusk and dawn and the huge differences between summer and winter. They are the events of Midsummer, the phenomena of the midnight sun and the Aurora Borealis, or the multiple gray shades of the south and west. But lightscapes are more than that. They are irrevocably connected to the whole subject of climate, the differences of temperature, the rain and the snow, the winds mild and rough. They have to do with atmosphere, changing moods, the evocation of memories and reveries. We attach symbolic meanings to whatever form the light takes; it creates the conditions of life that we try to master and change, with inevitable ecological consequences. A lightscape is whatever is in the air.
